Hometown Heroes Column Earns an APEX Award 2024
As we celebrate Veterans Day this month, content marketing company Working With Words, LLC is proud to announce that it has won an award for a series of articles individually honoring U.S. military veterans.
Hometown Heroes, a regular feature in the monthly magazine East Fishkill Living, earned an Award of Excellence in Writing in the category of Regular Departments & Columns. Our entry was one of more than 1,100 submitted to APEX 2024, an awards program that recognizes content for its ability to achieve overall communications excellence.
East Fishkill Living is a community publication mailed to 3,750 households in the hometown of Jeanne Cotroneo Darrow, who launched the magazine in 2017 to connect businesses with residents and to bring people together. She brought the Hometown Heroes section to life in January 2023, thanks to sponsor Arco Protection Systems and its owner Craig Arco, who also grew up in East Fishkill.
Every month, this two-page article tells the story of a U.S. military serviceman or -woman who bravely served our country. Through photos and interviews with the heroes themselves or their family members, we share their inspirational tales of bravery and sacrifice that are so deserving to be told. Each article is our opportunity to express gratitude for their selflessness in protecting our freedoms. It is an honor to listen to their stories and learn about their experiences. Especially this month, when we observe Veterans Day, we want to thank all who have served our country and those who continue to serve.
